App intelligence guide
How to estimate app revenue
A useful app revenue estimate starts with demand, then adds monetization context. Appdex pages show the estimate as a range because ranking position, price, category and conversion can move the result by a lot even when two apps look similar.
Start with monthly demand
Monthly downloads are the base layer. In Appdex category hubs the visible top lists often separate high-demand apps from high-revenue apps, which is why the revenue leader is not always the download leader. Read download bands first, then ask whether the app has subscriptions, paid pricing or in-app purchases.
Use category revenue density
A Finance or Productivity app can support higher revenue per install than a broad free entertainment app, while Games can monetize through high volume. For a quick screen, compare the app against its category hub and its highest-grossing collection before using the midpoint.
Treat the midpoint as a compass
The midpoint is useful for ranking competitors, but the low and high bounds are the real decision surface. A range such as $40k-$70k/month is a tighter read than $10k-$160k/month, even when both have the same midpoint.
