App intelligence guide
What's a good downloads-to-revenue ratio?
A good downloads-to-revenue ratio depends on the job the app performs. Some apps need huge download volume to make meaningful revenue, while niche subscription tools can earn more from fewer installs.
Translate downloads into revenue per install
Divide monthly revenue by monthly downloads to get a directional revenue-per-install readout. A low number is not automatically bad if the app has massive volume; a high number is not automatically durable if review growth is weak.
Compare like with like
Use direct comparison pages and category hubs before judging the ratio. A Finance subscription app, a free social app and a paid utility can all have healthy businesses with very different ratios.
Watch the rating and growth context
If an app has strong downloads but weak rating depth, the ratio may be unstable. If it has moderate downloads, strong ratings and a high revenue range, it may be a better niche target than a larger but lower-intent market.
